Project scope at a glance
- Concept planning
- Earthworks coordination
- Material reuse decisions
- Drainage and irrigation
- Turnkey yard transformation

Design before demolition
A simple concept plan can identify lawn, paving, gardens, retaining walls, sheds and access paths. This allows the removal quote to include the correct levels and leave the site ready for the next trade.
Reuse and recycling
Some pavers, coping, fencing or landscape materials may be reusable. Decide what is being retained before machinery arrives.
Drainage and irrigation
Old pool plumbing is not a substitute for a new drainage or irrigation design. New systems should be planned for the transformed yard.
Clear scope boundaries
The contract should state who supplies topsoil, turf, plants, paving, edging, irrigation and final clean up. A complete price is only useful when inclusions are clear.
Questions to ask before accepting a quote
- What removal method is included and what will remain below ground?
- Which approvals, licences, inspections or specialist reports apply?
- How will waste, fill, drainage and compaction be handled?
- What access assumptions and exclusions are built into the price?
- What documents and photographs will be provided at completion?
- QBCC guidance on deregistering and lawfully decommissioning a pool
- Business Queensland information about demolition licensing
Approval and licensing requirements vary. A building certifier, council and the proposed contractor should confirm the requirements for the property.
