Why online price ranges are unreliable
The same size pool can produce very different quotes depending on shell material, reinforcement, depth, access and disposal distance. A narrow access concrete pool may require far more labour than an open access fibreglass shell.
Demolition and cartage
Concrete breaking, steel separation, fibreglass cutting, tip fees and truck movements form one part of the cost. Surrounding paving and equipment can materially increase the volume.
Fill and compaction
Imported material is priced by type and volume, then there is machinery time to place and compact it. Testing, engineering and difficult access may add separate costs.
Finish and hidden extras
Topsoil, turf, gardens, paving, drainage, fencing repairs and access restoration should be clearly included or excluded. Also ask about service disconnection, approvals and clean up.
Project checklist
- Pool type and dimensions
- Access width
- Complete or partial method
- Fill specification
- Final yard finish
- QBCC guidance on deregistering and lawfully decommissioning a pool
- Business Queensland information about demolition licensing
Approval and licensing requirements vary. A building certifier, council and the proposed contractor should confirm the requirements for the property.
