Concrete pools
Concrete shells are broken or cut, with reinforcement separated where practical. Depth, thickness and surrounding concrete heavily influence waste volume.
Fibreglass pools
Fibreglass shells may be lifted, cut or dismantled. Groundwater and soil pressure can affect the safe sequence once the pool is drained.
Access can reverse expectations
A fibreglass pool may be quicker with open crane access, but difficult when the shell must be sectioned through a narrow path. A small concrete pool can also be labour intensive in a courtyard.
Backfilling principles remain important
Regardless of shell type, the void, disturbed surrounding soil, plumbing trenches, drainage and future use should guide the fill plan.
